If you stay in Cartagena, I recommend Hostal Casamara. It was an excellent choice for us. It is located only a short ten minute walk from the Old City and we had no problems walking home at night, we felt safe. As for nightlife, there was a Cuban club right around the corner that we went to both nights. It was fun. The hostel is of decent size, and even has a swimming pool, where we met a lot of other travelers. There is a refrigerator by the pool too. The hostess was super nice, and served delicious coffee in the morning. She arranged some of our tours as well. Overall, fun stay!

Comfortable rooms, with TV and air conditioning for a pretty cheap price. Cute colonial styled architecture, and the staff was welcoming and hospitable. Not exactly in the city center, however close enough that it wasn't a problem. (and it was cheaper than most other hostels). Only real problem was the wi-fi connection was not that great, but after all, I was there to travel not sit on my laptop! to conclude: I would recommend Casamara Hostal

Este lugar fue sinceramente un gran albergue juvenil. Estoy muy contenta que lo encontramos. Si estamos en Cartagena una otra vez voy a permanecerme alli otra vez.

Amazing atmosphere in the courtyard, nice jacuzzi on the rooftops of Cartagena. Had water dropping in from the ceiling in my room, but they were fixing that.

This was a pretty decent hotel, especially compared with the different hotels in the area. Pros: location was pretty good and safe location. The pool was small but nice, especially when it was hot! Also, they keep the place SPOTLESS. Cons: Not much going on from a socially. This place is probably better for families or couples looking to keep to themselves.

Casa Mara is a lovely hotel in a great location in Cartagena. The hotel has a nice courtyard and a small terrace. The staff is very friendly and even helped us book additional transportation and accommodation. The rooms are simple but clean and have air conditioning.

Casa Mara is an oasis in Cartagena! The rooms are clean and the staff are friendly and helpful. The rooms are simple but perfect for what we needed at a very reasonable rate. The plunge pool under the huge mango tree is great for escaping on hot muggy days. Would definitely come back to Casa Mara - great value for money

Casa Mara was great! stayed in a private room. The staff is very helpful and friendly. I thought the rate was great value for what was provided. The room was clean and there is A/C. We couldn't really adjust the water temperature of the shower, but it is so hot in Cartagena that I didn't mind. They have a restaurant called Luna Nueva on Calle Media Luna, which offers meals at a great value.
